Transporters Fear Service Disruption Due to Covid Restrictions

AITMC, the all-India transporter’s body, remains apprehensive of disruptions in the wake of the lockdown curbs imposed by several states. The restrictions imposed by states such as Maharashtra, Delhi and Punjab due to the sudden spike in coronavirus caseload has impacted free movement of goods. AITMC or the All-India Motor Transport Congress represents over 95 Lakh truckers. The union is wary of inordinate delay in transportation that can derail supply chains.

Fresh restrictions include night curfews, lockdowns, prohibition on inter-state entry and other stringent measures in place to break the chain of viral transmission.

AITMC has said that transport restrictions would create a problem in same-day delivery, as well as loading and unloading. Due to the delay caused by transport curbs, e-way bill expiry is putting extra burden on them. They have demanded the authorities to permit night commuting as well as a leeway in e-way bill rendered null due to government restrictions.
